If you’re anything like us you’ve done all your favourite Brighton clubs to death and you’re starting to feel restless. After all, the nights are getting longer, they’re definitely lighter and at some point the weather has got to start improving too. In fact, it’s finally starting to feel like summer is just around the corner. And we want clubbing and gigging with a difference. Thankfully, the Great Escape Festival is going to kick off just in time and we can’t wait.
As we speak, over 200 new local and international artists are warming up their vocal cords, tuning their guitars and choosing their outfits ready for the start of the Great Escape Festival on 15th May. The three-dayer is taking place over even more venues this year – at the last count 25 – and we’re already resting up ready for three days of non-stop partying.
In fact, we’re so excited that we’re pretty much beside ourselves. This year, as well as the club nights and all-important after parties, the wristbands will also get you into outdoor gigs and afternoon shows. And we’re not afraid to admit that we’re even thinking of finally making use of our gym memberships in preparation, just so we’ve got the stamina.
Gig-wise, local Brighton talent we’ll be supporting includes Derek Meins, Doll and The Kicks, Nic Dawson Kelly, Jacob Stories, Elizabeth Walling, Hold Fire, Restlesslist and Passenger. Let’s face it, you don’t get much more eclectic than that little line-up. Never mind great escape, with events like this we’re more than happy to stay put.
To be honest I can never tire of the Brighton clubbing scene as there's always so many clubs and bars to go to... but I must admit, the Great Escape festival does sound pretty cool, even though I've never heard of any of the performers you've mentioned. Who knows maybe they'll all be my new favourite bands once I've seen them so can't wait!
Ahh festival season - gotta love it! Can't wait to see Doll and the Kicks - I saw a gig recently and it. rocked. out.
