Funky Buddha (no relation to the London club of the same name) is one of the busiest clubs in Brighton and boasts some of the longest running club nights.

The Venue
Located in the arches on the seafront and the home of quality clubbing in the city, its location up on one of the ramps leading down from the main road to the seafront ensures that it's set apart from the fray.

The People
Funky Buddha draws in a big crowd especially on weekends as it's one of the few clubs that plays RnB and chart music on a Saturday night. However, this is always subject to change so make sure that you check the night's music policy before you go there. The layout of the club means that it can become quite claustrophobic due to its narrow rooms as it's set in two adjacent arches and its low curved ceilings can make it feel smaller than it actually is. However, the exposed brick lends a cosy, underground drinking air to the club and after a few drinks you'll have staked your claim on the dancefloor and found a spot for dancing. Best of all, Funky Buddha has a great atmosphere thanks to the unpretentious crowd that it attracts so you won't have to spend any time worrying about stepping on the wrong person's foot.

The Music
Aside from RnB the music policy is funk in all the many guises that brings - from the more sophisticated Seventies tracks to funky house, as long as you can get your groove on to it, they'll stick it on the decks.

The Drink
If you ask, the bartenders will whisk up a mean cocktail although this club is always so busy that you're better off sticking to drinks in bottles if you don't want to end up wearing it within a couple of minutes of negotiating your way through the crowds lining up at the bar.

The Last Word
Funky Buddha attracts many of Brighton's most stylish, attitude-free clubbers thanks to its ongoing association with some of the city's finest turntable maestros although if it's space you're after then it's worth noting that this is certainly no warehouse club.
