One of the more charismatic bars to be found within the identikit sprawl of Brighton's new-money marina.

The Venue
Brighton Marina is not known for doing anything that tastefully and often fails to capture the charm and originality of the rest of Brighton. However, Karma stands out from the crowd in Brighton Marina and occupies a prime location looking out over rows of boats and yachts. The stylish interior combines a mixture of Middle Eastern influences. Exotic looking even from the outside, indoors it has brightly coloured cushions scattered around big arc banquettes, little archways and hanging metal lanterns. There is a even a boudoir-like back area which is so dark it's the scene of many a romantic tryst.

The People
At night the bar really comes alive with music and a stylish crowd spanning several decades whilst during the day it's a more laid back affair as people drop by after mooring their yachts for a quick drink to help stabilise their sea legs.

The Food and Drink
Unfortunately, the Middle Eastern theme is let down by the menu which feature dishes like green Thai curry and sausage and mash. A shame as the food could really finish off the theme beautifully. As for drinks, during the day coffee and tea are just as popular as glasses of wine but come sunset it's spirits or pints of Kronenbourg or Fosters all the way.

The Last Word
For a themed bar, Karma is a pretty stylish affair and affords great views over the marina.
