The ViewBrighton Review
Brighton’s most famous jazz club headed up by DJ Russ Dewbury is a dark, underground bar full of great music and late-night energy hailing from jazz aficionados. The VenueThis jazz club may sport a quiet exterior, but looks can be misleading. The space at the Brighton Jazz Rooms is modestly appointed, a little rough around the edges but with plenty of charm. The sparse furnishing means more room for where the action is – on the dance floor. With a small capacity of 121, the close proximity of the dancefloor to the stage allows great views of the artists at work. And if that fails to keep your interest, it’s great for people-watching too – the audience’s dedication to the music is palpable.
The PeopleJazz fans one and all in this haven amid the Brighton club scene that still has shedloads of soul. From old to modern jazz, one thing every artist here guarantees that feet will be tapping, thighs will be slapped and there won't be too many bums in seats, they'll be too busy shaking it around the dancefloor.
The MusicBeyond the dive-like facade at the Brighton Jazz Rooms, a collection of talented musicians and vocalists perform, while on the weekends, DJ Russ Dewbury spins a mix of dance jazz, funk and soul.
The DrinkThe drinks (and drink prices) are fairly standard stuff for Brighton. Whilst cocktails including caipirinhas and mojitos are advertised, it somehow seems more appropriate to have a low-end beer in your hand. Let's face it, this spit and sawdust spot has an integrity that jazz lovers can easily get blown away on, you won't need cocktails or even beer to have a good night. Whilst the music's playing, you'll be having one.
The Last WordThe hub of a Brighton scene that's all about the music, pure and simple, you haven't really earnt your Brighton stripes unless you've spent a night at the Jazz Rooms.
