The Brighton Naked Bike Ride offers cyclists the opportunity to get their kit off for a good cause. Whilst hopping on a bicycle and pedalling around Brighton in the buff may not appeal to everyone, for the many hundreds of brave souls who choose to bare all in their birthday suits (in praise of environmentally friendly bikes over cars) even the British weather isn’t a deterrent.
Feel The Breeze
The Brighton Naked Bike Ride has taken place for a few years now. Last year, 400 riders stripped off and cycled their way around the streets of Brighton and along the seafront and 2009 looks set to attract even more participants. Brighton is just one of the UK cities taking part in the worldwide events. The other UK cities taking part are Southampton, London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Manchester, Sheffield and York so even if you end up more than a little saddle sore you can rest safe in the knowledge that you’ll be in good (if a little chafed) company.
Make A Day Of It
It’s not just cycling that you get to strip off for. To celebrate the start of the cycling event, participants can gather for some lunch to fuel the fun before embarking on a naked jaunt around the streets of Brighton, ending up on the seafront. The event ends with a swim in the sea at Black Rock naturist beach followed by a picnic so if you’ve ever wondered about skinny dipping in the sea but have never managed to find any like minded souls, here’s your opportunity.
One Ride Just Not Enough?
If one day of naked cycling doesn’t sound like enough, fear not. The Brighton Naked Bike Ride has been moved to a Sunday for 2009 so that participants can take part in all of the Southern UK events. The other Southern events are handily taking place in London and Southampton on the two days beforehand so if you fancy taking part in those too, you’ll be nicely warmed up by the time it comes to the Brighton cycle which will take in a tour of some of the city’s most famous landmarks including the Royal Pavilion and Brighton Pier.
Make A Statement
Bare doesn’t have to mean boring. Getting your kit off for a good cause is also a handy excuse to daub yourself and your bike in decorations. Colourful body art is all part of the fun and is another way of highlighting the serious message of climate change and cycling as a credible and eco friendly choice over cars. Time to get creative with body paint.
The Brighton Naked Bike Ride 2009 starts at 12pm on Sunday 14th June 2009 at The Level with lunch and a chance to decorate yourself and your bike.
Cyclists must be assembled by 1pm with the ride itself starting at 1.30pm from The Level and finishing at around 4pm at Black Rock naturist beach for a post-cycle picnic and dip in the sea.
