The ViewBrighton Review
From goths to punks, Caroline of Brunswick offers a friendly alternative for the city's less run of the mill bar flies. The VenueIn a city full of alternatives, The Caroline Of Brunswick is known as Brighton’s premier alternative pub (we’re talking goths, punks and other related genres here). There are benches out the front and the inside is done out (unsurprisingly) in black, scarlet, maroon and...black, along with pics of pin-up girls on the wall. It has a central bar and there’s a cosy, elevated snug area at the back. There's also a semi-covered beer garden area, ideal for when the bracing sea breeze makes it all the way back to Ditchling Road.
Although the upstairs area is currently used for private functions, plans are afoot to open it up for more regular DJ and live music nights. The bar staff are friendly and welcoming whether you're a wide eyed innocent or such a die-hard punk that you sleep sitting up.
The PeopleFrom goths to punks, anyone who fancies a more alternative drinking scene and has a taste for Jagermeister and Tuaca holes up at the C of B for the duration.
The Food and DrinkThere's San Miguel, Carlsberg, Brains, Guinness, Adnams Broadside and Old Rosie cider on draught, with a strong selection of bottled ciders too. You can get shots of Jagermeister, tequila, sambucca and Tuaca for a couple of quid too. Food is served at lunch and then service starts up again from early evening for a few hours.
The Last WordCaroline of Brunswick is a friendly place which attracts a young, studenty crowd alongside a core of alternative drinkers of all ages.
