A friendly pub for real beer fans, the Caxton Arms is popular with the post thirty set.

The Venue
After a refurb which saw it closed for an entire four months, the Caxton Arms has reemerged in all its revamped glory. The Shepherd Neame pub is tucked away in North Gardens, just behind Queens Road, and its quiet location certainly works in its favour as it attracts in the know locals rather than the weekend hordes from further afield.

The exterior is decorated with flower and plant pots and there's a cosy bar, plus another bar which has a pool table. The beer garden is also incredibly popular with both smokers and sunbathers depending on the season.

The People
Attracting a predominantly thirty-something set, the Caxton Arms is a haven for ale drinkers who aren't drinking to get drunk but to appreciate a fine pint or two. There are no pre-club drinkers here just a steady pace of drink and conversation throughout the night.

The Food and Drink
There is a commendably individual selection of draught beers compared to most pubs with Asahi, Oranjeboom and Hurliman on tap, as well as Shepherd Neame ales Spitfire and Kents Best. In bottles there's Peroni, Corona, Newcastle Brown, Whitstable Bay and Bishops Finger. There's food available at lunchtime and in the evenings, including snacks such as sandwiches and nachos.

The Last Word
A coat of paint can work wonders and this popular, friendly and comfortable pub is looking even better than before. However, it's the fantastic range of beer on offer that ensures its success for many years to come.
