The ViewBrighton Review
One of Hanover's most popular pubs remains refreshingly down to earth and it's a handy stop off point if you're heading to Brighton Racecourse. The VenueIn amongst the cool and contemporary styled bars that Brighton is best known for, it's comforting to know that some things don't change. Located in the heart of residential Hanover, the biggest compromise the Cobden Arms makes to modern culture is satellite TV.
With its picturesque green and gold frontage, it's very much a sport oriented backstreet boozer and at any given time there's either cricket, rugby or football being broadcast on its two large screens. There's also in true pub tradition a pool table and, not one, but two dartboards. It's also not far from Brighton Racecourse and you can sometimes spot punters drowning their sorrows. There's a sun-trap patio at the back for lazy summer drinking.
The PeopleSports fanatics one and all. The punters are mostly men and tend to be locals who have been coming to the Cobden for years. The odd racegoer is welcomed into the throng but this is a no frills pub so if you're dressed in all your finery and wearing a hat before a day at the races this is probably not the place for you.
The DrinkThe pub has Kronenbourg, John Smiths, Strongbow, Guinness, Harveys and Amstel on tap and Holsten Pils, Becks, Budweiser and Magners in bottles. Being a blokey pub, wines are available but they're not a top priority, it tends to be all about the beer.
The Last WordA bastion of all things sport, this neighbourhood pub is reassuringly traditional and is ideal for relaxing over a few pints whilst watching your team on the big screen.
