The ViewBrighton Review
A solid choice for a pint or two if you're a local but there's nothing remarkable about the Crown and Anchor and it's not worth going out of your way to drink here. The VenueLocated at the bottom of Preston Drove, The Crown and Anchor has smartened up its act following a refurb a couple of years ago, although it still retains a local pub feel, hardly a surprise as that's exactly what it is. The bar is long and curved and well stocked and the recent addition of Sky Sports on a big screen has pulled in more punters.
There’s a pool table and a couple of fruit machines, as well as board games for bored or playful customers. The pub also hosts live music, including folk nights.
The PeopleSlightly bored looking locals while away an evening, killing some time over a few games of pool. There are more smiling faces to be seen when matches are on the big screen.
The Drink and FoodThe pub serves Strongbow, Stella Artois, Becks, Guinness, Tetleys, Carling and San Miguel on draught, with prices ranging from £2.85 to £3.10 a pint. There’s also Becks, Budweiser, Guinness, Magners and Corona in bottles. There are three red wines and three whites on offer with a bottle averaging out at around £10.00. The food consists of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes with average prices coming in at around £8.00, with steaks costing a reasonable £10.00. The food is reasonably good but a little pricey given that it's bog standard pub grub not gastro pub standards.
The Last WordThe inclusion of sport on TV has increased trade at the Crown and Anchor while maintaining its local bar feel but it's not worth a pub travelling out of your way for.
