The ViewBrighton Review
Despite its turquoise exterior, the Duke of Beaufort is a traditional pub that's popular with sports fans.
The Venue
The Duke Of Beaufort is an enormous street corner pub painted light turquoise on the outside and traditionally decorated inside. It shows sport, mainly football whenever possible, on a six foot screen. There's a large beer garden at the back and a popular restaurant upstairs which serves Thai food and which can seat up to 40 people. The pub hosts several weekly events including a disco and pool and darts tournaments.
The People
Stuffed to the seams with sports fans, the Duke of Beaufort attracts a fun crowd that throws itself wholeheartedly into whatever event they happen to have on. The disco sees middle aged locals for whom perms are still the height of fashion throwing many a peculiar shape, imagine the worst wedding disco dancing you've ever been unfortunate enough to witness and you're halfway to having a handle on the mixture of cringeworthy and comedy dancing that's everywhere you look.
The Food and Drink
Newcastle Brown, John Smiths, Guinness and Miller are some of the beers on tap, plus there are real ales on rotation. They also have plenty of wines, including a Wolf Blass Red Label Shiraz Grenache and a Casillero Del Diablo Merlot. Food is available from the Thai restaurant upstairs and deserves its excellent word of mouth reputation.
The Last Word
The Duke of Beaufort is a traditional boozer that knows how to have fun and the locals wouldn't want it any other way.
