The ViewBrighton Review
Sports fans, students and even mourners can be found at the Franklin Tavern. The VenueThe Franklin Tavern is located on the main road into Brighton, not far from the university. It's a big old pub with seating outside and a couple of tall trees concealing much of the facade. It's a bit lacking in atmosphere, a fact that's not helped by the fact that it's often used by mourners from the nearby crematorium.
The pub is also popular with sports fans. Not only is there live sport on the two TV screens, there's also a pool table and three dart boards which always attract plenty of people and good natured banter. A juke box struggles to keep the atmosphere more upbeat but the monthly DJ nights are slightly more successful.
The PeopleAn eclectic mix that ranges from the distraught to the drunken and everything in between although most nights are popular with sports fanatics and the DJ nights prove popular with students.
The Food and DrinkThere are no remarkable choices behind the bar but it is still a pretty solid offering that includes Becks, Fosters, Stella Artois, Kronenbourg, John Smiths, Guinness, Guinness Extra Cold and Strongbow on draught. The food is run-of-the-mill pub grub and whilst it's only standard pub grub, the fact that the menu changes every month does keep things mildly more interesting.
The Last WordThe Franklin Tavern is nothing to write home about but it's a good choice if you're into your sport.
