The ViewBrighton Review
A traditional Kemp Town pub that's worth a drink if you're a local but isn't really worth travelling across Brighton for.The VenueThe outside of the pub is quaint with its white plaster and raven black beams and inside The Golden Cannon is fairly traditional too. The airy one-roomed pub is popular with locals who fancy a pint in between watching their favourite TV programmes of an evening.
The PeopleThis is a local pub for local people and you can be certain that if you're not from Kemp Town then the regulars here will know it and eye you suspiciously. On the other hand if you're one of their own you'll be welcomed with a hearty slap on the back.
The Food and DrinkIt tends to be pints all round here so take your pick from Fosters, Kronenbourg, Amstel, Grolsch, Stowford Press and Weston's or if you can handle the stares there's bottled Becks, Budvar, Corona, Kopparberg and Magners. Wine is stupidly cheap at only £8.25 for a bottle of the Chilean Sauvignon Blanc house white and the most expensive bottle is a still reasonably priced £15.00. The food menu includes sandwiches, fish and chips and rib-eye steak, all for between £3.00 and £8.00 but it's best for a nice greasy fry up.
The Last WordThe Golden Cannon is a true locals pub and if you're not from Kemp Town then the punters will spot it a mile off. That said, if you're new to the area and fancy meeting all your neighbours in one drunken night, then this is the pub to visit.
