The ViewBrighton Review

Review byGareth Thomas13/10/2007
Dating back to 1709, The Mitre Tavern is one of Brighton's leading pubs for real ale.

The Venue
Off the main shopping throroughfare of London Road, cast your eye down Baker Street and you’ll see a white-fronted building standing proudly on a street corner halfway down. Founded in 1709, The Mitre Tavern is owned by the Sussex Brewers and is one of Brighton’s premier real ale pubs. Inside it's understated, and full of locals supping its real ales. Handily, there's an outdoor smoking patio out the back that's popular come rain or shine.

The People
An archetypal old man's pub, if you're under the age of fifty you'll be considered a young 'un here, a fact that makes the pub all the more refreshing.

The Drink
The Mitre serves Harveys, Sussex Mild and Stowford Press on draught plus a good selection of bottled beers and ciders although you're best off sticking to jars of real ale if you want to fit in.

The Last Word
An historic, down-to-earth real ale Brighton pub, The Mitre Tavern has been around for hundreds of years and it's not going anywhere soon.
