The ViewBrighton Review

The name may be formal but this cosy pub is anything but and attracts an alternative crowd.

The Venue
Next door to the Mash Tun is Mrs Fitzherberts, named after one of mistresses of The Prince of Wales (later King George IV), who lived in Brighton. It's small and cosy inside and attracts an indie/alternative crowd that are often heading off to nearby gigs later on. There's plenty of outside seating, which accounts for a great deal of people-watching in the summer. Upstairs, there's a private room for hire that gets booked up well in advance for birthdays and the odd Thank-God-I'm-Single-Again party.

The People
A friendly, predominantly long haired bunch the Fitzherberts crowd wear T-shirts for the band that they're championing at the moment with pride. This isn't a pub you should dress up to go to if you want to fit in.

The Food and Drink
Alternating real ales are the main draw but there's also San Miguel, Fosters, Strongbow and Kronenbourg on draught. Foodwise, there are very reasonably priced snacks like sandwiches and jacket potatoes from £3, as well as larger dishes like steak and kidney pie for a smidgen more.

The Last Word
A popular meeting point on a key junction in the North Laines, Mrs Fitzherberts is a regular watering hole for indie music fans.
