The ViewBrighton Review

Occupying a prime location in the heart of The Lanes, the bar is still tucked back just enough from the main sweep of pedestrians to feel appealingly in-the-know.

The Venue
Opened in October 2006, The Sky Bar is a sleek, spacious and contemporary styled DJ bar in the heart of The Lanes that makes fantastic use of its double height ceiling. There is outside seating which is ideal for people watching or sneaking a quick ciggie whilst inside there are three distinct areas: the bar area, the sunken lounge, and a mezzanine area which doubles up as a VIP room when necessary.

The mezzanine area is particularly striking as the wall overlooking the bar is glass and the bright splashes of citrus furniture stand out against the mainly sparkling white surroundings. There's a pulpit behind the main bar where the DJ booth is housed and and there are plans to turn the function room upstairs into a public area and extend it to form another gallery floor. It closes on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 3am and during the rest of the week at midnight and if you're in the mood for a party, this is the place as there are top notch DJs at weekends and an open mic night during the week.

The People
Everyone dresses up and makes an effort here which adds to the sense of occasion and up-for-it party night atmosphere however, this is no exclusive haunt. Scantily clad girls look more Primark than Pugh and the sea of shiny shoes and Ben Sherman shirts isn't do the guys any favours either.

The Food and Drink
On draught there's just Becks Vier and Stella Artois, but there are plenty of spirits for cocktails and mixers you just need to pick your poison. As you'd expect in a bar this great looking, Champagne is also a popular choice.

The Last Word
Slick, contemporary and pleasantly filled with sunshine during the day, the bar really comes into its own at night when it's transformed into one of the most stylish cocktail and DJ bars in Central Brighton.
