The ViewBrighton Review
Students and staff from the nearby Brighton Hospital pop in for a quick drink on their way home and end up staying longer. The VenueThe Sudeley Arms was taken over around a year ago and transformed from an old man's pub into the St Georges Inn of today. Painted deep burgundy on the outside, inside it's simply but stylishly fitted out with scuffed floorboards, small round wooden tables and shiny green sofas.
There are big mirrors on the walls so you can gaze into them to check out what's happening in the rest of the pub if your companion isn't holding your attention and candles on the tables in the evening so that you can gaze transfixed if they are. Most notably however, there's a pretty large walled seating area out the back with a dozen or so benches.
The PeopleBookish students, trendy students and I'm-still-trying-to-find-myself students all merrily rub shoulders at the bar alongside doctors and nurses. Although, after a few try and resist asking to see their stethoscope or for a full medical exam, they've heard it all before.
The Food and DrinkThere's Kronenbourg, San Miguel, Heineken, Stowford Press cider, Harveys and guest ales from the pumps. The wine is also pretty popular too and starts at £10 a bottle. Food-wise there are 14 different types of sausage to go with 8 different types of mash not forgetting the seven different types of gravy, as well as several types of burgers and pizzas.
The Last WordA vast improvement on the previous pub, the St Georges Inn has brought a much needed splash of colour to the area.
