It's not hard to find The Black Lion, located as it is on a street of the same name, within the ever popular Lanes.

The Venue
A big, spacious town centre pub with a tiled and wooden floor and that's about as exciting as it gets. There are quite a few small tables and some shiny blue sofas inside, as well as a sheltered and heated seating area outside, with its wooden benches and overhead gas heaters that practically scream run of the mill.

You can also enter the pub down the side through the beer garden if you don't want any of your style conscious mates catching you spending your hard earned here although one of its redeeming qualities is that it's open till 2am on Fridays and Saturdays so once you're in you may not be leaving for a fair few hours.

The People
Anyone who puts ease as a priority over imagination drinks here but that said sometimes average is more appealing than all singing, all dancing. Its location will suck you in and its late licence may well keep you here but with so many fantastic pubs in such a small area the people here tend to be out of towners who don't know any better and first year university students who soon will.

The Drink
As with the punters, the drinks list here really won't rock your world but it's not too offensive either. There's a fairly standard selection of Fosters, San Miguel, Old Rosie Cloudy Cider and Guinness on tap. Bottled beer and cocktails are also on offer although nothing too fancy and new fangled. Let's face it at pubs like this you're better off sticking to cider than chancing your luck and ordering a caipiriniha.

The Last Word
A run of the mill pub in The Lanes, which suffers from offering nothing particularly outstanding in a sea of bars and pubs which are all striving to be the finest and most original in their field.
