The ViewBrighton Review
A family friendly pub which serves up generous portions of jazz accompanied by delicious food. The VenueThe Cleveland is a small traditional street corner pub which serves good quality beer and has an outside drinking area overlooking Blakers Park. A lick of paint has improved the look inside, which has been modernised, but it has also retained some traditional features like the open fire which is a popular feature in colder months. There is also a new conservatory which serves as the restaurant area and is light, airy and removed from the hubbub of the main pub.
The PeopleThis is a family friendly affair so families with children of all ages are a permanent fixture here. Jazz fans are also frequent visitors thanks to the monthly jazz nights.
The Food and DrinkThe bar has Harveys, Youngs Special, Bass, Gales HSB and Strongbow on draught and there’s Becks, Pils, Peroni, Corona, Magners, Westons and Thatchers pear cider in bottles.
The restaurant menu changes daily and dishes include tempura battered fish and chips. The menu is varied and includes locally sourced produce, all cooked on site. The restaurant has already been gaining accolades and a word of mouth reputation and it’s busy most nights. The pub hosts monthly swing jazz nights and is very family friendly, especially with the park directly outside for the children to run around in after the meal.
The Last WordA family friendly pub handily located by a park, The Cleveland is relaxed and welcoming. The food here is a must so don't just stick to the drinks list here.
