The ViewBrighton Review
If the spectre of global warming is enough to have you reaching for a very large alcoholic drink then this is the place to do it. Renewable energy, organic, locally sourced...this pub ticks all the boxes. The VenueSlightly stuck on its own at the end of Windsor Street is the Earth and Stars. This North Laines stalwart, with solar panels on the roof, is probably the most environmentally-friendly pub in Brighton.
Inside, there’s something almost Nordic about the pub, with its light wood floors and tables, grey wood panelling and pared-down, rustic feel. There's exposed brickwork and modern art on the walls as you'd expect at a Brighton gastro pub and there’s more seating in the room upstairs.
The PeopleAs cities go Brighton has always led the way when it comes to its green credentials so it's no surprise that hemp-clad, vegans who only wear vegetarian shoes are as at home here as DJs and record shop owners. Oh, and anyone who doesn't fancy a hangover the next day - apparently organic alcohol does less damage.
The Food and DrinkWhere possible the food is locally sourced, the beer is organic and all the wines are organic and sourced from independent European producers. Beers on draught include Freedom Lager, Bombardier and San Miguel and there's also Westons organic vintage cider. Food includes tapas dishes of mushrooms, roasted peppers, tortilla, meatballs, steak and chorizo, with larger dishes available for about £11-£13.
The Last WordThe Earth and Stars is a pleasant airy and friendly pub with a green twist. Great food too on a healthy theme.
