The ViewBrighton Review
The Fountain Head hasn't forgotten its previous life as an art gallery and even though it's now selling pints rather than paintings it still attracts an arty crowd. The VenuePreviously an art gallery, The Fountain Head only came into existence in its current guise in Spring 2007. Although it hasn't been open for that long, The Fountain Head is a great example of how a pub can successfully fuse the old and the new. It has classic pub features such as wooden floorboards, exposed brickwork and two log fires mixed together with modern lighting and funky colour schemes. Running along the side of the pub there's an outside space with seating under a large canopy and gas heaters which is popular all year round.
It holds quiz, DJ and open mic nights throughout the week. Subject to planning permission, the pub plans to extend into the shop next door which will almost double its capacity.
The PeopleThe Fountain Head is patronised by a quirky combination of students, office workers, regulars who live in the surrounding streets and an arty bunch who can't get enough of its welcoming feel and ever changing events.
The Food and DrinkThere's Fosters, Kronenbourg, San Miguel, Guinness, Strongbow, Harveys and Westons on tap, as well as a good range of spirits and shooters. There are also real ales on rotation (that include the likes of Hobgoblin). The food on offer is mainly snacks but particularly recommended are the pancakes with a choice of savoury and sweet fillings.
The Last WordOne of the city's newest pubs, The Fountain Head has already succeeded in creating the atmosphere that usually comes with hundreds of years of pulling pints. Thanks to its old lived-in feel the pub already has an impressive number of regulars who treat it like a home from home. Make sure that you do too.
