When it comes to food, drink, service and atmosphere, The Hop Poles excels at getting it just right.

The Venue
Since its reincarnation as The Hop Poles several years ago it has enlivened the local bar scene and also become a favourite watering hole amongst other bar owners (always a good sign). The secret of its success lies for now with its manager who stages left-field, impromptu events which involve the whole pub at different points of the evening.

There's an outside space at the back of the pub that's popular for al fresco eating, drinking and smoking and although it's relatively small inside, the pub still manages to stage some of the coolest music nights in town. With new offices going up in the area and the arrival of the new Carling Academy, this pub will only get more popular so be prepared to queue out the door soon.

The People
Aside from other bar owners, the Hop Poles plays host to many musos and the odd smug student who can't believe they go it so right so early on on their drinking and dossing career.

The Food and Drink
Heineken, Fosters, Stowford Press Cider, Old Speckled Hen, Leffe, Abbot Ale, IPA, Kronenbourg, Guinness and Budweiser are all on tap. As for the food there's old favourites such as Ploughmans, steaks, chilli, bean burgers and Cumberland sausages are just some of the dishes on the extensive menu which refreshingly changes every day which is a great incentive to visit just as often especially as the dishes range from £6-£7 for big platefuls of grub.

The Last Word
Thanks to its positive approach to good service The Hop Poles continues to go from strength to strength. A superb choice for locals and tourists alike.
