A fittingly named pub for Trafalgar Street this traditional pub is great for stopping off for a post commute pint.

The Venue
Founded in 1790 it’s a fairly traditional boozer with hanging wall baskets outside and a blue and white exterior. The Lord Nelson is in a back street near the railway station, but just off the beaten track. There are two small and comfy saloon bars to settle in away from the hustle and bustle and the back area is available for functions.

The conservatory is perfect for those sunny days and there's a log fire for colder nights. The cosy atmosphere is enhanced by the fact that children are welcome.

The People
During weekday evenings, commuters line the bar drinking away the long train journey but come weekends families come out to play.

The Drink
There's Scrumpy Jack, Addlestones and Strongbow on draught and Harveys real ales on rotation. The wine list features reds and whites from a reasonable £11 a bottle.

The Last Word
A quiet pub to slip into that feels far away from the madding crowd.
