The ViewBrighton Review
If you've relocated from Ooop North and are having a hard time being surrounded by soft Southerners, then The Queens Head will come as a relief. It may be located in Brighton but it's styled like a down to earth Northern boozer. The VenueThere's a classic feel to The Queens Head which is reminiscent of a big, grand Northern pub. It has emerald green walls and potted plants sit on the sills of the bay windows. Big wooden tables, sturdy chairs and comfy leather sofas point towards the big screen where there always seems to be footie on Sky Sports. There is limited seating outside so be prepared to arm wrestle for it.
The PeopleThe Queens Head attracts salt of the earth types, the sort who'd still stop at the side of the road to help you change a flat tyre even if they were in a hurry to colllect their lottery winnings. Ruddy cheeked already after a night on the jars most faces at the bar are puce.
The Food and DrinkOn draught there's Staropramen, Belle Vue Creek, Timothy Taylor, Guinness, Fransisker, Stowford Press and in bottles Red Stripe, Magners and Hoegaarden. The pub does a three for one deal on shots of Jagermeister, Tuaca and tequila so it doesn't cost much to kickstart a night out here. As for the food, there's a solid range of reasonably priced dishes: jacket potatoes, sandwiches and baguettes from £2-£6. Belly of pork with mash and veg, pie of the day with mash and vegetarian lasagne are slightly more expensive at £5-£6. Food's served during the day until early evening so don't arrive expecting a late night feed.
The Last WordA good place to watch the footie and growl at the big screen on a weekend afternoon, The Queens Head is a beast of a boozer.
