The ViewBrighton Review

Review byGareth Thomas27/03/2008
Named in honour of its fantastic views at sunset, it's no wonder this pub gets so popular as it nears sundown.

The Venue
Affording great views of Brighton at sunset, over the past year the Setting Sun has been rejuvenated. It hasn't just had the usual fresh lick of paint and a bit of a refurb, widescale changes include the kitchen being re-opened which is a great move as nowadays pub grub is the norm not the exception.

Inside there's light wood flooring and big leather sofas which aren't really that remarkable but what a drink here is really all about is those views. Its hard to beat panoramic views across Brighton and out to sea with a glass of wine in hand. Prime seating during the summer months is on the patio at the back which is enclosed by a low white wall and has metal tables and chairs and a wooden bench along one side.

The People
Anyone who can brave the steep streets pops in for a pint after work justifying the walk as reason enough to stay on for that extra pint of ale.

The Food and Drink
As well as a good range of beers and cider on tap (Grolsch, San Miguel, Stowford Press, Black Sheep, Guinness) The Setting Sun prides itself on its wine list which includes a Luis Canas Rioja Crianza which is £14.50 a bottle and Pasqua Pinot Grigio at only £11.40 a bottle or £3.85 for a large glass. Food is served in the evening and there's a specials menu which includes staple classics such as haddock and chips, pork and leek sausages and chicken breast and Parma ham, all for less than £10.

The Last Word
The Setting Sun is well worth climbing the steep, winding streets to soak up the view and savour a glass of good quality wine.
