The ViewBrighton Review
Its name is designed to appeal to students and its cheap food and drinks policy certainly doesn't hurt when it comes to attracting them either. The VenueA vast pub on the seafront occupying the corner of East Street and Brills Lane, The Varsity is a bar for all seasons. It has TV screens showing live sport, fruit machines, sofas, banquettes, clusters of chairs around tables and big mirrors. Phew. Having said that it's actually pretty cheap (and cheerful).
The PeopleStudents, students and more students...sitting at tables, lining up shots at the bar and sinking their teeth into burgers.
The Food and DrinkGuinness, Grolsch, Tetleys, Carling, Stella, John Smiths...they're all on draught. There are long and short cocktails for as little as £3.50, as well as pitchers and shots for just a £1 or £1.50. On the food front, there are sandwiches for under £4, wraps, hot melts and burgers for under £5 and larger dishes like Cajun chicken, lamb shank and sausage and mash for up to £6.
The Last WordThe Varsity fulfills its remit as a stonking student boozer on the seafront.
