The ViewBrighton Review
A favourite with the city's muso fraternity, there are few pubs that sum up the spirit of Brighton better than The Cobblers Thumb. The VenueAfter years of neglect The Cobblers Thumb is finally being spruced up and repainted. With its location near to Warners Recording Studio, The Cobblers attracts a music loving crowd (both fans and musicians), which is reflected in the discerning, indie-slanted music policy. The young manager is a friendly soul so it's small wonder that it’s a favourite with students and Brighton locals alike.
From the patterned carpet, to the overstuffed bookshelves to the paintings and photos on the wall, wherever you look there's something of interest to catch your eye. When you tire of gazing around you, head to the room housing a pool table and let the real hustling begin. Outside, the back area is complete with gas heaters and the barbecues are popular with regulars who prefer to kick back and let someone else do the cooking on a sunny day. Open from midday till 11.30pm in the week, come weekends it's open an extra hour.
The PeopleMusic lovers in their droves head to the Cobblers Thumb of an evening and successful musicians happily rub shoulders with students as they talk all things music.
The Food and DrinkServing Becks, Kronenbourg, San Miguel, Scrumpy Jack, Harveys Sussex Best, Bombardier and Westons Scrumpy on tap works a treat when it comes to keeping punters well watered and as for the food, those barbecues are worth waiting half the year for.
The Last WordThe Cobblers Thumb reflects all that's great about the British pub institution, where old lags mix with young indie types. Its redecoration will mark a vast improvement in looks but the personality is already there.
