Despite the early hour, as we were on our way to the evening performance at the Dome, the friendliness and warm attentiveness of the staff to us, probably somewhat older than their usual clientele, created an atmosphere that was warm and welcoming. The delicious and well-presented food arrived promptly and was accompanied by clear directions to our destination.
visited Fishy Fishy yesterday for my husband birthday (we had plans to go to London which fell throught last minute) So I suggested English's which we often visit My husband said that he would like to try fishy fishy as he had read a review in The times. So called in the morning to book for lunch that day (friday 5th feb) we managed to get a table for 2pm, We had trouble finding the restautrant as East street is very long so called the restaurant for help a very polite lady told it's right next to LK benett (so of course I then new exactly were to find it!)
The restaurant has a warm friendly atmosphere tables are close together but still comfortable, the service prompt and professional The menu choice was very good all local season fish and even a steak for that one person in your party who wont even try fish.
We had oysters and mussels to start, then fish cakes and boiled crab for main. The crab was the best I have ever tasted and considering my father used to own a fishmongers that is saying something!
We shared a white and dark chocolate terrine, which was light and flavoursome followed by two coffee. We also had 2 glasses of champagne, large bottle of water and a bottle of Muscadet the total bill came to 71.00 a bargin!!
I will be going back!
I had relatives over from Iceland and bought them to Brighton for the weekend, our concierge at My Hotel suggested we try this eatery. I have to say I found the whole experience awful. Our table was not ready when we arrived and we had to wait on the street for about 10 minutes, eventually we were seated and waited a further 15 minutes before anyone asked us what we would like to drink, at this point however we had not even seen a wine list or menu. When our party of four ordered the waiter arrived and said let me tell you what we don't have, the list was endless, we all struggled to find something, I ended up with garlic prawns, these were very small and as our table was very small the waiter placed my finger bowl on the floor. One of my relatives ordered oysters and an accompanying shot of Vodka, the oysters were good the vodka never arrived.
For my main I had mussels these were small but ok, I asked for chips as a side these also did not materialise, again the finger bowl did not fit and was placed on the floor, this time however it was not a bowl, but a glass, my hand did not fit in it at all. When the mains were cleared the glass was left and remained on the table for the rest of the meal.
The ladies toilet was out of order and one of our party was left waiting outside it for 10 mins when they alerted staff as they were concerned someone may be ill in it, they said "its broke use the mens". I have to say our waiter was unhelpful, rude and not at all professional, the manager the same, we were not the only table disappointed the 2 tables around us asked to see the manager at which point the manager hid in the kitchen. When we said to our waiter we felt the service and unavailability of food was not acceptable, he said its not my fault, ive have had some really difficult customers this evening!
If I had put my name to this business I would be in there asap giving the staff a very good shake up. I doubt we will visit this establ
I ate at Fishy Fishy last night with four friends. The menu had a good, reasonably priced selection and we were generally pleased with the starters we ordered (garlic prawns, calamari and pate).
However, we were then left waiting 50 MINUTES for our main course! It took the waiter an exceptionally long time to realise we still hadn't been served our main course, he then told us it would be five minutes, it was at least ten.
When the meals eventually arrived three of us had the fish and chips, the fish was beautifully cooked with light batter, however the chips were small and thin and the mushy peas were more like a puree and were almost cold. We were not asked if we would like to order a second lot of drinks - we had to ask him if we could.
To top it off when we put our money with the bill he then stood and counted it in front of us at the table - presumably to check it was all there!
We felt that this was incredibly poor practice, something I have never encountered before! Overall I was disappointed with Fish Fishy, it promised much but did not deliver. I shall stick to fish and chips on the sea front from now on!
Seems strange that people win free meals then complain, gift horse in the mouth springs to mind
We eat at fishy on Saturday night and had a great time our waiter Andrew was fantastic and new way more than he had too.
The food was amazing and the ridgeview wine washed it all down a treat
highly recommend this place and its great to know that they are looking after and supporting local fisheries instead of buying crap from anywhere.
One of the best places to eat in Brighton by far
I was completely unimpressed with the food, but as I had won a free meal for 2 I was glad I didn't have to pay for it.
I started with the fried calamari which were heavily laden with batter that was close to burnt, although the lemon creme fraiche that came with it was good.
The main was a real letdown. I had pan-fried wild seabass with mash and the fish was a burnt sacrifice and the mash was a boiled potato crushed with a fork, with no butter or cream or anything else for that matter. That meant both the fish and the 'mash' were completely dry and inedible.
I did point this out to the waiter who was lovely and did tell the chef. When we left, I asked him if the chef agreed and he said yes. So unless a fish restaurant can cook a simple dish of pan fried fish and mash I surely will not be going back.
Dermot stick with the X Factor because if your restaurant was auditioning it wouldn't get past the first one.
A truly below average meal.
We ha d a table of 7 booked for a Saturday night, very cramped table.
Service..........miserable waiter not very welcoming and quite surly and condescending when we were ordering, apart from one young girl who was very cheery and helpful.
Atmosphere.........virtually none.
Food..................Quite a few dishes were off the menu and the items we could have either average or not very good.
No sardines as starters , no skate for main course...............and NO CHIPS in a fish restaurant (apparently a fryer had broken, surely you have more than one fryer in a restaurant.
Go on treat yourselves to a backup one.) I did see some chips go past before the fryer broke, they were sort of McDonald's style served in an egg cup size portion, so I don't think we missed much.
All in all Dermot, stick to TV or get some partners who know about running a restaurant. We were so disappointed we didn't bother with dessert and won't bother returning
First off this restuarant is very good value - three of us ate three courses with drinks and an a serving of oysters for a tad under £100. That really is exceptional.
Service was very good and, on the whole the food was excellent although sometimes let down by details.
Two portions of garlic prawns were generous and tasty but lacking on the garlic front. The Brightonbaisse was overly seasoned with pepper and the taste of the fish was lost.
For mains the fish and chips was excellent as was the half lobster.
The mussels were good but again the sauce was overly seasoned - this time with salt. Puddings and wine were all good value.
We'll go back and enjoy even more I am sure but to give Riddle and Finns (best in Brighton by far but can get pricey) a run for their money the kitchen needs to step up a notch.
