The ViewBrighton Review
A diamond in the rough of West Street, avoid the kebab skid run further down the street and hole up with cocktails and cracking DJs that'll see you through until the early hours. The VenueThe DJ bar worth bothering about on West Street, Heist stands out from the crowd with its impressive facade, massive flower arrangements, an original stained glass window at the back and a great little decked patio up a flight of stairs outside. It's low-lit, laid-back and with its exposed brickwork and comfy sofas, it's a cut above its hen/stag/townie competitors down the road, such as Yates and Walkabout. Soulful sounds keep on coming from the impressive sound system and past 11pm at the far end of the room near the DJ box you'll find every conceivable shape being thrown. The fact that it's open till 3am-4am over the weekend lends it an intimate atmosphere that's reminiscent of boutique clubbing. The downstairs bar area with its separate entrance is a little more sedate but no less fun and there's a further room upstairs too.
The PeopleAnyone who loves dancing and their music upbeat and loud hits Heist at weekends as the DJ keeps the vinyl turnover high, holding other West Street bars to ransom with hit after hit that ensures that once you're through the door you're not going anywhere. From students to those old enough to know far better, everyone gets down and dirty on the improvised dancefloor.
The DrinkThere are around 40 cocktails on offer which will keep even the thirstiest of bar flies occupied for a while. Whilst there are plenty of beers on draught, Heist also boasts an amazing selection of rums, tequilas and vodkas and even stocks the many versions of the rather sought-after Van Winkle bourbon.
The Last WordWhen it comes to partying on the street that taste forgot Heist is a welcome break from the norm. A haven offering quality drinks and top notch music.
